Design Office Team Leader H/F

The world leader in the design and production of high-tech batteries, Saft (4300 employees worldwide, including 1450 in France spread over 4 sites), has been part of the Total group since 2016. Saft works with a network of global partners and their batteries power equipment in a wide range of sectors, from aerospace and rail to energy and electronics.

Since 2018, Saft has been leading a European alliance to develop the solid-state battery of the future, which means a significant investment in R&D. Well underway, this project needs more Design Office Team Leaders who are passionate about working on developing the technology of tomorrow.

Batteries play a crucial role in the energy transition; that’s why Saft aims to develop new environmentally friendly solutions and to reduce their carbon footprint.

To support their growth and development, Saft is recruiting Design Office Team Leaders, based in Nersac (16) near Angoulême or in Bordeaux (33).

Your tasks will be to:

  • Analyze client requests
  • Coordinate and validate feasibility and quote responses.
  • Supervise teams composed of mechanical and/or thermal engineers and CAD (Solidworks) drafters/planners.

Required profile:
Technical Skills:
  • Particularly strong and specialized technical expertise in the field of the design office
  • Very good knowledge of all the professions making up the design office: from the computer engineer to the CAD drafters/planners.
  • Ability to use all of the software tools of the design office in order to better dialogue with all the teams
  • Good vision of all the trades involved in the design and production of the final product to be produced
  • Project management skills, including how to best manage the budget and schedules
  • Good technical English

Professional Skills:
  • Customer sense, both to understand the needs expressed and to meet the deadlines and expected quality
  • Management skills to best organize the work of engineers and designers
  • Attention to detail, as the slightest flaw in the designs delivered by the design firm can have a significant negative impact on the final product
  • Concrete and rational spirit, in order to visualize and take into account the objective constraints of project feasibility
  • Relational qualities as the design office manager is the primary point of contact between the design office and clients (internal or external)


With a Mechanical Engineering School degree or similar, you have at least 5 years of experience on a similar position in the field of large series industrial equipment (automobile, medical…).

You have already worked on Solidworks.

You have a strong appetence for the study of new processes.

In addition to your technical skills, you also demonstrate a strong analysis spirit and adaptability to change, good anticipation skills, a good sense of organization and customer service, a spirit of initiative and a results-oriented approach.

Due to the international environment of the project, travels are to be expected and English proficiency is essential.
